Camp

☃❄Hi Blog World! It's Joyce here again.⛄❆
Today this post is about our school camp at Mt Ruapehu. Camp was awesome! It was such a blast! In class we had to make a slideshow about the trip. There were some tasks to complete in the slideshow. My favourite part about making the slideshow was adding photos. Some photos were super funny that you might see during looking at my slideshow.

There were many challenges I had experience at camp like skiing, going on the chairlift and finding particular things in Hamilton Gardens. At Hamilton Garden we had a competition between all colour groups we were in. We had to find 25 particular things in the gardens. We came first and got chocolate bars. I also had some successes at camp as well. I could ski down Happy Valley very well and confidently. My ski instructor Rory was very funny. I went on the chairlifts and saw some spectacular view of the mountains. Going on the magic carpet (travellator) was cool. I didn't like it when the chairlift and magic carpet stopped in the middle. I nearly fell over on the magic carpet, but when the chairlift stopped at the highest point it was super scary because it would swing around. I thought I was going to fall off. My first tobogganing experience didn't go so good. I bumped someone off their tobogganing and crashed into a icy snow wall. I don't think I'm ever going on it ever again. Me and friend Dora also learnt the Universal Alphabet from our bus driver Royal. We can say it off by heart now. On the bus we even made some of our own alphabets. That was super fun. We stayed at The Park Hotel at National Park. In my room I had my friends Dora and Hilary. Dinner was very yummy. My favourite was the beef lasagne and brownies. They were so good. The trip to every stop we went to was quite a long bus ride but it didn't matter to me because that meant me and my friends could talk for longer.

Ako Hiko student led toolkits

Hi everyone!
Today a group of people from Te Waka Ako went to New Windsor School to do some student led toolkits.
I learnt how to Powtoon and I also did Prodigy. They were both really fun fun to make and play. I also did the problem solving challenge with my friends and we won the most creative for our structure. The structure had to be at least 10cm tall and could hold a cup containing 100 grams of weight. Some people were lucky enough to teach others to do things and play with robots. After the event we went on to the Ako Hiko website to leave a reflection. We had to records ourselves answering the questions. We also took selfies to go with it, some were super crazy. Here are some photos of the event.

I think Powtoon is great for presenting information. It is just like google slides but more fun to make. The most enjoyable part of the day was the problem solving challenge.

Suffixes

Hi  everyone it's Joyce here with another blog post.
This week when Literacy Tumble I made a poster about suffixes. Have a look.

I enjoyed making the poster because I like to change the colours of a lot of things to make it all pretty. Making the poster wasn't challenging because I already knew all of this stuff.

Hope you liked my poster and please leave a comment below!👇

Procedure writing

Hi blog world it's Joyce here again. In writing this week we did some procedure writing. We discussed what features a procedure needs and the structure it has. I decided to do a procedure about how to make Chinese dumplings from scratch. My writing is below.👇
WALT Create a Procedure

Success Criteria I will include:
  • A clear title
  • Ingredient list
  • Equipment ist
  • Strong verbs
  • Specific nouns
How to make Chinese Dumplings from scratch

Ingredients for filling:
Pork mince
Chives
Oyster Sauce
Soy sauce
Salt
Or
Ingredients you would like

Ingredients for dough:
Flour
Water
A lot of energy/power/muscle

Equipments needed:

Frying pan or Sauce pan
Kettle
Really big bowl
Chopping board
Drainer
Draining spoon
Spoon or chopsticks
Bowl

Instructions for filling:

Step one
Drain and wash the pork mince through the drainer until it doesn’t have too much blood and whitish pink.

Step two
Chop up the chives or whatever you choose into small pieces.
Step three
Mix the pork mince and chopped up vegetables and mix thoroughly.

Step four
Sprinkle two pinches of salt over the mince.

Step Five
Splash over some soy sauce over the filling mixture.

Step Six
Pour in a lot of oyster sauce. (2 cups for about 1kg.)

Step Seven
Stir the filling mixture well until everything is combined. (You can add more flavouring if needed.)

Instructions for dough:

Step One
Pour some flour into a really big bowl. There are no exact measurements for this you really just need to eyeball it.

Step Two
Spill in some warm water into the flour and mix.

Step Three
Mix well and when it becomes a dough-like consistency you should now decide if the dough is too sticky or too dry. If too sticky add some more flour, if too dry add a bit more water. Because we are making dough for dumplings make sure it isn’t too soft. Once you are happy with the consistency of the dough wrap some glad wrap around the dough and leave it for about 30 mins. After 30 mins the dough is ready to use. When you take the dough out of the glad wrap you might notice that it becomes a bit more sticky so add a bit more flour and mix in the dough.

Now just make the dumplings!
When finished making the dumplings either fry them or bring to a simmer in a boiler.
If you choose to fry them place the dumplings in the fry pan and add a bowl of water to that.
If you choose to boil them make some hot water and pour it  into the saucepan and once it is boiling in the pan put the dumplings in the hot water. Bring them to a simmer and use a draining spoon and scoop them out onto a plate.

Both ways for better taste dip them in some dumpling sauce or vinegar.

Writing the procedure was really fun and quite easy because I've made it lots of times and know it off by heart. I was basically just using my prior knowledge. I really enjoyed writing this. Also feel free to try the recipe I wrote.

For inquiry this term we had to make a comic strip about being cybersafe online. Being cybersafe around emails is really important and you should always be cybersmart when online. Take a look at the comic strip that I made with my friends.
Making the comic strip was really fun when we got take the pictures. Please go and check out my friends blog @http://wpsdoras.blogspot.co.nz/ @http://wpshilaryg.blogspot.co.nz/

Hi blog world, it's Joyce here again.
This term we are learning about being green. In reading we had a look at sustainability. We made an infographic about it. Infographics is presenting information in a fun way. You can read any part you like whenever. You don't need to follow the way it goes. Have a look at my infographic.

Making the infographic was really fun. I liked when we could add icons on the google drawing.
